Your well water could contain contaminants.
Contaminants that can affect:
- its potability (bacteria, parasites, etc.)
- its aesthetic quality (taste, odour, appearance)
- your health (arsenic, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.)
These contaminants can be detected through different types of water testing.
The Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques recommends having your water tested regularly.
It is recommended that you have your water tested at least twice a year for microbiological parameters, in the spring and fall, and at least once during the period of use of a well for physicochemical parameters related to soil characteristics.
Water testing alone is not enough to guarantee the quality of your drinking water.
In addition to the recommended testing, you should regularly check the condition of your well and septic system, look for potential sources of contamination around the well (fertilizer or manure spreading, dead animals, wastewater discharge, toxic product spills, etc.), and take the appropriate corrective measures.
